Lab
What we are building
As machines get better at understanding people, the scarce thing becomes each person's understanding of themselves, and their say over the models others hold of them. Every experiment here starts from that. The ones that work graduate into products and services, or into Learn when what they offer is understanding rather than a tool.
From idea to product
Nothing leaves the Lab until people have used it and it has survived what they told us.
- 1Exploring
An idea we test in conversations with the people it is for.
- 2Building
A first version is being made with a small group of partners.
- 3Testing
People are using it and telling us what fails.
- 4Graduated
It has proved itself. A tool becomes a product or service; an idea that helps people understand becomes part of Learn.
In the Lab now
Open an experiment to read the idea and where it stands, or tell us if you want to take part.
Case management for educational psychologists, for locums and for EPs in a service. Cases, schools, sessions, deadlines and the emails around them sit on one board in the browser, and the files stay in the EP's own folders.
We are building a live map of research on learning, emotion and behaviour, where new papers light up their topic and the evidence becomes something to try.
An interactive tour of George Bonanno's research on resilience and flexibility, being written now. When it is ready, it moves to Learn.
An app for the years from the first thought of a child to the first years of being a mother, with stories, illustrated posts and quotes to share. All the research is there, with the theory kept in the background.
We are building a way to follow a young person from 7.º ano, through questionnaires, grades and what the family observes, towards a well-founded recommendation for secondary school at the end of 9.º.
Being designed so that managers and teams can see what each person expects, try small changes and keep a shared understanding up to date.
A proposal for an educational psychology service where schools can ask on any day and each answer updates a living formulation of the child.
An app for youth basketball: short lessons and games for players, plays shown move by move, help for parents, and Ask for coaches. In English for clubs in England and in Portuguese for clubs in Portugal.
A psychoeducation programme for teenagers, being written now: how they anticipate, how feelings are made and how to find their own words for what they feel. When it is ready, it moves to Learn.
A child's own page about how they work, with adults' notes underneath. It grows with the child and passes from school to school as one thread, instead of a Word copy.
We are building a selection tool for HR teams: interpret what a role asks, test exactly that with structured interviews and real tasks, and get a signed formulation of each candidate in place of a type or a colour.
Supervision and CPD for educational psychologists who work alone. Two minutes a week, by voice or in writing, and your learning becomes a record you can stand behind. When the HCPC asks for your CPD profile, it is already written in your own words.
For children who find the unknown hard. Say where you are going, who is coming to visit or which everyday moment is hard, such as hearing "not now". Rehearsal sets out what will be different, how to prepare your child and a short walk-through to practise together. You can also make visual timetables and now-and-next boards to print or keep on your phone.
Games an ELSA plays with one or two children, built on the theory of constructed emotion, with KS1 and KS2 versions.
Staff training from educational psychologists, shaped to each school. Schools plan a session in a few questions, or run it themselves with a ready kit, and the slides keep up with the research in Lumipedia.
Graduated
An experiment that is now a product.
