Bounded EP Service

Most services work like this: a school calls, an educational psychologist visits, a report is written, and the case closes. This one keeps learning. Every question a school asks updates one shared formulation of the child. Every outcome staff log shapes the next recommendation. Every psychologist's best work becomes the whole team's. It is designed for local authorities in England, with practising educational psychologists.

The idea we are testing

1Questions on any dayA school asks when the question comes up, not when a visit is booked. The answer starts from everything the service already knows about the child.
2One formulation that keeps changingConversations, observations and logged outcomes all update the same explanation of the child. Each change is dated, so anyone can see what moved it and why.
3A team that learns from itselfWhen one psychologist writes a formulation, a programme or a set of questions that works, the rest of the team can use it, compare notes and question it.

Where it is now

There is nothing to try yet. We are shaping it with the people it is for, and will show it once it works.

When it is ready, it graduates into a product or service.

Who it is for

Schools and families

An answer when the question comes up, and an explanation of the child that becomes more accurate over the year.

Educational psychologists

Less time rebuilding a case from scratch and more time on the judgements only a psychologist can make, learning from the team's best work as they go.

The local authority

A service that improves the more it is used, works with non-identifiable data, and shows what changed for each child.

Taking part

We are building the first version with practising educational psychologists. If you lead SEND or educational psychology in a local authority in England and would like to see it, write to Ricardo.
