Bounded Select

Much of selection still rests on personality colours and types that describe almost anyone. Bounded Select starts from what the role asks of the person in it, tests exactly that with structured interviews and real tasks, gathers each interviewer's rating independently, and gives a formulation of each candidate that a person edits and signs. The engine interprets and proposes; people rate and decide.

The idea we are testing

1The role before the candidateWhat the person will have to predict, notice, adjust and learn, under which conditions, with what is needed on day one kept apart from what is learned in post.
2Methods with evidence behind themStructured interviews with behaviourally anchored scales, work samples and reference questions, the same for every candidate.
3Each interviewer rates aloneRatings are submitted before anyone sees the others, and the comparison shows where the panel disagrees. There is no total score and no ranking.
4Checked against what happenedAt 3, 6 and 12 months the same requirements are reviewed at work, beside what selection predicted.

Where it is now

A first prototype exists. It is unfinished and changes often, so what you see may differ from what we finally release.

When it is ready, it graduates into a product or service.

Who it is for

HR teams

A method they can explain to a hiring manager and defend to a candidate.

Hiring managers

Fewer appointments that look right in the interview and go wrong in the first year.

Candidates

Questions about what the work asks, and feedback built on what they said and did.

Taking part

We are looking for an HR team in Portugal to run a first pilot. If you want to take part, write to Ricardo.
